Collaborative Patient Transfer 2 DOF Robot

Abstract

This project is part of a broader vision to develop lifting robot assistants and an eco-system of devices for a smart hospital room concept. The goal is to release caregivers from time-consuming, low-value tasks and empower patients with mobility assistance features.

The proposed assistance technology addresses two major societal problems: 1) improving caregivers' health and work conditions by limiting physical effort during patient transfers, and 2) improving patients' care quality by facilitating occasions for them to move out of their bed. This specific research focuses on the development of collaborative floor-lift systems with multiple degrees of freedom to enable more natural and versatile motion assistance.
